The Flag of Distress, by Whitby photographer Frank Meadow Sutcliffe, is evocative of the fate of the brig Elizabeth Jane. Though Elizabeth Jane appears not to have been blown ashore in a storm, she was eventually washed onto the beach below 'Peak' at Ravenscar. Mary and Agnes appears to have been a similar size to Elizabeth Jane and so by using Sutcliffe's photograph, a dollop of imagination, and the watercolours of George Weatherill it is possible to visualise Elizabeth Jane's final hours.
